Voodoo Doll Sugar Cookies
If you’re looking for a unique twist on Halloween cookies or you just want an edible voodoo doll, you’ve come to the right place! I had so much fun making/torturing these little guys! Since icing has so much sugar in it, I cut out half of the regular sugar in the cookies with a substitute to make them a little bit healthier as well!
…..
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 cup Stevia (sugar substitute)
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
Pretzel sticks
Icing in assorted colors (I used red, black, and white the most)
Large candy sprinkles or mini M&M’s
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
Stir in eggs and vanilla until mixed well. Next add flour, baking powder, and salt until all of the dry ingredients are mixed in. Cover the bowl and chill in the fridge for an hour or overnight.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F
Roll out dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness. Cut out your voodoo doll guys and place about 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 5-7 minutes
Place cookies on a cooling rack and while they’re still cooling, stab in a few pretzel sticks. If you wait until they’ve completely cooled and hardened up a bit the pretzel sticks may break the cookie. I dipped mine in red icing before placing them in for extra goriness!
Side note: You do not need a pastry bag with decorating tips to do the icing. I actually tried to use mine and I didn’t like the way it turned out. Put the icing in a small zip-lock bag and cut a very small piece out of the corner. It works so much better and I was able to get a lot more detailed!
Once they’ve cooled decorate and torture how you see fit!
Enjoy!
P.S. If you have leftover cookie dough, just put it in a zip-lock bag and freeze it! Move the frozen dough to the refrigerator about 1 day before using!
