With gardening season coming to a close I typically spend part of my days off processing the remaining tomatillos, peppers, and tomatoes from the garden into fresh salsa. I couldn’t think of a better complementing drink to all that spicy salsa than an icy cold margarita. I decided to mix in some tasty craft beer and used the Tangerine Express IPA from Stone Brewing. It made for an unexpectedly delicious and refreshing twist to my mixture of freshly squeezed orange juice, lime juice, honey, and of course a hefty splash of tequila. They were sweet and citrusy with the perfect mix of hoppiness and a hint of tangerine. You can use the excuse of spicy salsa to enjoy one of these or just make it because you damn well please. Either way you’ll be glad you did!
Disclosure: I received a free sample of Stone Brewing’s Tangerine Express IPA to try. All opinions and words are my own.
(makes 2 margaritas)
Ingredients:
6 Tbs fresh orange juice (about 1 orange)
4 Tbs fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
1 1/2 Tbs honey
4 oz silver tequila
3-4 oz Stone Brewing Tangerine Express IPA
Ice
Coarse salt for the rim of the glasses
Run a lime wedge around the rims of two glasses and dip into a shallow bowl filled with coarse salt. Press to coat the edges of the glass in salt. Fill with ice and set aside.
Combine all ingredients except for the beer into a large cocktail shaker and shake for 20-30 seconds or until the honey is completely dissolved. Pour into prepared glasses, top with the IPA, garnish, and serve!
Enjoy responsibly!
