Wow… I feel like my childhood and adulthood just fused together! Warm chocolate rum sauce, vanilla and Sailor Jerry Rum milkshake mixture, topped with homemade whipped cream… ALSO made with Sailor Jerry Rum! I didn’t think it would be possible to take something so innocent and make it so sinfully delicious! Grab two straws and share one with your sweetheart tonight!
…..
(makes one large milkshake)
Ingredients:
For chocolate rum sauce:
6 oz semi-sweet chocolate
¾ cup heavy cream
¾ cup brown sugar
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
¼ tsp salt
3 Tbs unsalted butter
2 tsp Sailor Jerry Rum
For whipped cream:
½ cup heavy cream
2 Tbs powdered sugar
1 tsp Sailor Jerry Rum
1 tsp vanilla extract
For milkshake:
3-4 scoops of vanilla ice cream
¾ cup milk (I didn’t use the full measurement because I like mine thicker)
1-2oz of Sailor Jerry Rum
Sprinkles or powdered cocoa (optional)
Maraschino cherries (optional)
(1.) To make the chocolate rum sauce, combine 3 oz of the chocolate, heavy cream, brown sugar, cocoa, and salt in a medium sauce pan over medium heat. Stir constantly and bring mixture to a boil. Lower heat setting to low and continue to cook for 5 minutes, stirring often. (2.) Remove from heat and add remaining chocolate and butter. Stir until smooth. (3.) Add Sailor jerry Rum and stir until combined. (4.) Place in a microwave safe container and set aside to cool until ready to use. You can always make the night before and refrigerate. When ready to use just microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between intervals until melted.
To make the whipped cream, combine heavy cream, powdered sugar, Sailor Jerry Rum, and vanilla extract in a medium sized bowl. Use a whisk to whip ingredients together until soft peaks form. You’ll get an arm workout, but it’s worth it! It’s so much better than store bought whipped cream! Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
In a large glass, add scoops of ice cream. Pour milk in to your preference, and Sailor Jerry Rum. Stir to mix.
In a separate glass or sundae glass, drizzle 3-4 spoonfuls of chocolate rum sauce down the sides, add milkshake mixture, top with whipped cream, sprinkles, and cherry.
Enjoy responsibly!

Dear Tattooed Martha, I ran into your recipe while I was surfing the web, and I must say, you should’ve seen the smile on my face when I laid eyes on this one. I’m a Soldier, currently deployed in Kuwait, finishing up a nine month tour, and without a doubt in my mind, this will be the first treat I make myself upon returning home. Your website is great, and I look forward to surfing through the rest of you recipes!
