I can’t speak for anyone else, but I find the holidays extremely stressful! Traveling, family, and trying to find the perfect gift for everyone (without going broke) can all add pressure to what should be an otherwise merry time of year. I decided to make things a bit easier for myself this year by creating homemade body scrubs to give as gifts. This simple 4 ingredient scrub keeps your skin soft, hydrated, and smelling delicious! An added bonus for my tattooed readers is that after you get rid of that dry winter skin, you’ll notice it makes your tattoos stand out a bit more! Since all the ingredients are edible, this doubles as a lip scrub too! Whether you’re trying to save on spending this year or you need to make a quick last minute gift, this peppermint scrub is just the answer!
…..
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
½ cup coconut oil
½ tsp peppermint extract
6-7 drops of red food coloring
Divide ingredients between two bowls, reserving the red food coloring for just one bowl. Stir until ingredients are mixed well.
Spoon one of the mixtures into a small canning jar or other sealing container and use the back of the spoon to pack mixture into the edges of the jar. Follow it up with a spoonful of the opposite mixture and repeat the process, alternating the red and white scrub until completely used up. Seal it up, tie a ribbon or gift tag around the jar with a candy cane or two, and gift it!
Directions for use: Apply to damp skin in a circular motion for 20-30 seconds. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry with a towel. To use as a lip scrub: Apply a small amount to your lips in small circular motions. Rinse off with water and pat dry.
Store out of direct sunlight since coconut oil will begin to melt at 76 degrees F (25 degrees C). Coconut oil usually has a shelf life of 2 years, but double check the expiration date on your jar. My guess is that this scrub won’t be sitting around longer than a week or two before you go through it all anyway! 😉
Enjoy!
