Looking at our tree I realized we were missing a few things.. garland, tinsel, and photo ornaments. Instead of making/buying all of those I decided to just combine them! I used the iPhone app, Postal Pix, to select photos from my phone that I wanted to use and this Glitter Eyelash yarn from Martha Stewart that reminded me of tinsel. The best part about this project is that you can add or remove photos to your garland over the years!
….
Supplies:
Even number of photos from Postal Pix – I used eighteen 2×2” photos. It only cost $7.22 and they deliver them right to your door!
Mod Podge
Small paint brush or foam brush
Yarn or string
Jingle bells
5 inch pieces of thread for each photo pair
Sewing needle
(1.) Cut out each of your photos and trim off any excess photo paper. (2.) Brush a thin layer of Mod Podge on the back of one photo, (3.) place a piece of thread in the middle, (4.) and then place another photo on top to “sandwich” the thread in the middle. Press photos together for 20-30 seconds and repeat with remaining photos.
The best way to measure out how much yarn you’ll need is to simply wrap your tree in it! For our little 6ft tree I used about 28ft of yarn. (5.) I tied a small piece of thread with a sewing needle attached to one end of yarn to string the jingle bells on easier. (6.) Evenly space them out across the length of your yarn (7.) and tie a knot around the top of the bell. (8.) In between each bell, tie a photo on, and snip off any extra thread.
String it around the tree and you’re done!
