The first week of June in Portland is typically known as Fleet Week, where the U.S. Navy arrives and docks at Portland’s sea wall during the Rose Festival. Unfortunately, this year they had to cancel because of the budget cuts. Since the U.S. Navy cannot make it here I decided to bring them to you with a Sailor Jerry classic, the Homeward Bound! This simple yet delicious combination of fresh squeezed lemonade and Sailor Jerry Rum, makes the perfect thirst quenching summer cocktail!
…..
You can always just buy lemonade, but everything homemade is better! And it’s easier than you think!
For lemonade:
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice (6-8 lemons)
3-4 cups cold water
Combine sugar and 1 cup of water in a small sauce pan and heat on low-medium heat. Stir occasionally until all of the sugar has dissolved.
While waiting on sugar, combine lemon juice and 3 cups of cold water in a large pitcher. Add sugar and water mixture and stir. Add another cup of water if lemonade is too sweet or too tart for your liking. Place in the refrigerator to chill for 30 minutes.
(makes two drinks)
