Garden Party may be in the title, but it’s not the fancy garden party you may be thinking of nor is this cocktail. We’re literally talking about Bloody Mary’s in shot glasses and it can be a store bought mix that you add vodka to or you can use one of the awesome recipes I’ve got on my blog! It’s the extreme garnishing and vessel it’s in that makes this really garden-like.
My gentleman friend gifted me a tiny little succulent as a house warming gift when I first moved back to Iowa and the itty bitty terracotta pot it was in provided the perfect inspiration for a “plant” cocktail. I whipped up a big pitcher full of my signature Bloody Mary’s and snipped a handful of fresh herbs out of the garden to make this idea come to life. They make a great presentation for summer get-togethers and they’re as fun to make as they are to drink!
Now you can cheat and buy store mix or you can whip up a batch of your own which is easier to customize and you’ll get a ton of compliments for going the extra mile!
(makes 35-40 shots)
Ingredients:
4 cups tomato juice
1 1/2 cups vodka
1 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbs pickle juice (optional)
1 Tbs hot sauce (I like Sriracha or Tapatio)
1 tsp celery salt
1 tsp kosher salt + extra to rim the glasses
1 tsp freshly ground pepper
Juice from half a lemon
Juice from one lime
Other Items Needed:
Lime wedges to rim the glasses
Plastic or glass shot glasses
Small terracotta pots (I scored mine at the Dollar Tree)
Fresh herbs – I used rosemary, thyme, basil, chives, and parsley
Add all of the Bloody Mary ingredients in a large pitcher and stir until completely mixed. Cover and place in the refrigerator.
Add a few tablespoons of ground kosher salt to a shallow dish. Run a lime wedge around the rim of the shot glass and press into the salt until the edges are coated. Repeat with as many shots as you’re making.
Place the shot glasses in the the mini pots. An easy way to do this without dropping them straight in or messing up the salt rim you just made is to place your thumb and forefinger in the glass and then open your fingers so you’re applying pressure to the inside of the glass. Carefully pick up the glass and set it inside the mini pots.
Snip herbs to size and place them between the shot glass and pot until they’re garnished to your liking. Give your Bloody Mary mix a few good stirs and then carefully distribute into glasses. Serve right away. Feel free to eat your herb garnishes or toss them before you drink!
Enjoy responsibly!
