DIY Fall Canvas Wall Décor
For me, this time of year means cuddling up with a good book and watching the leaves fall. I wanted to create something to hang up that embodied exactly that! Not only was this project easy, but you can make it as unique as you like!
…..
If you don’t want one quite as big as the one I made you can always pick up a smaller canvas size and smaller wooden letters to work with as well.
Supplies:
4×6” wood letters spelling out “FALL”
White spray paint
Spray paint in your color of choice (I used Burgundy)
Sand paper or sand pad
16×20” stretched canvas
An old book – you probably already have one lying around, but if not just hit the thrift store. (I used a copy of Pride and Prejudice I found at a used bookstore awhile back)
Mod Podge
Large paint brush
2-3 packages of fall leaves (found in most craft stores for .99 cents)
Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
Scissors or an X-acto knife
_____
(1.) In a well-ventilated area, coat the front and sides of your letters with a thick layer of white spray paint. Give the letters about an hour to dry. (2.) Next spray your second paint choice over the white, completely covering the sides and face of the letter. (3.) Give 1-2 hours to dry. While you’re waiting you can start on the canvas portion of this project. (4.) Once your wooden letters have dried, sand the face and edges to give it a tarnished and rustic look, then set aside.
(5.) Next, using your scissors or knife, cut out pages from your book to go on the canvas. I even ripped a few out by hand to give it a more tattered look. (6.) Starting at the corner of your canvas spread a thin layer of Mod Podge in the area your page will go. (7.) Carefully place page down onto the canvas and smooth out some of the air bubbles and wrinkles. (8.) Continue to place pages on haphazardly until entire canvas is covered. Set aside to dry for 45 minutes to an hour.
Once canvas is dry, arrange your leaves how you would like them. Going one by one, place a few small lines of hot glue on the back of the leaf and stick it down to the canvas. Repeat until all leaves are glued down.
Starting with your first letter, coat the back with several lines of hot glue and place down on the canvas. Hold down for 20-30 seconds. You can use a measuring tape or ruler to line up letters as well.
Repeat with remaining letters. Give it a few minutes for the glue to fully set up and dry and you’re done!
Hang it up on the wall or display on your mantle with some pumpkins!
