Phew! Yesterday I spent nearly eight hours just cooking! Four recipes, one cocktail, and one wedding craft later and I’m finally finished..for now. My kitchen of course was in shambles, but it was all worth it! I have a lot of fun projects and delectable dishes coming your way!
Last week I had a quick tattoo session to put in some more work on my thigh and we’re just about finished.. with the first half. I still have a long and painful road ahead of me! I don’t like posting in-progress work, so you’ll just have to wait a little bit longer to see it!
We had some family visiting so we took them to the Columbia River Gorge to explore a few waterfalls. We lucked out with the weather and had a clear day finally, which provided breathtaking views from the Vista House.
Speaking of having this beautiful place to visit whenever we please.. Today is my three year Portland anniversary! It’s a little hard to believe that it’s been that long! I still remember balling my eyes out and hugging my girlfriends goodbye the night before and then having more tearful goodbyes with my parents that morning. My little red Corolla was packed to the roof with my belongings and my cat, Punk, was my road trip partner for the two day trip from Iowa to Oregon.
My attitude and outlook changed drastically in the first year I lived in Portland. I was suddenly very open about my feelings and made sure to express them, good or bad, to my friends and family. Your communication has to be strong or those bonds that you built in person, slowly fall apart. When I go back to visit we make the most of my time and we’re able to pick right back up like I never left. It’s still hard and I have the occasional rough patches of homesickness, but I know everyone is just a phone call away in the meantime.
I could write in-depth about my experience of moving my life across the country and some of the events that occurred, so you’ll have to let me know if you’re interested in ever hearing about it. Some of you are here just for the food and drinks, but this is after all, still a personal blog and I’d be happy to share more personal stories.
We’ve surrounded ourselves with great people here that have become a second family to us. I couldn’t be more grateful for the experiences I’ve had so far in this wonderfully weird city and I’m looking forward to many more!
I hope you’re all having a great week!

Sasha, you have terrific perspective & are very successful at communicating that through your writing/blog & various creative endeavors. You are so good at it, in fact, that I find myself nodding in recognition or chuckling in appreciation at the things you share & the way you share them.
I, for one, would enjoy hearing more about your cross country move!
I tried it once (from MA to AZ) & lasted a year. I was too homesick. I still live in MA!
Best,
Greer

I’d like to read about your move to a different part of the country, life is interesting and would love your view on moving away from what you know to a new area/friends.

I agree with Greer and Karen! I’d love to hear about your big move – the hows, the whys, all that good stuff! You’re a really interesting and inspiring person and I’d love to know more about what brought you to your current place in life! ^_^
Also, every Daily Life post makes me want to vacation in Portland! Someday soon I hope!

Well, of course you know I’d LOVE to hear about your move since I would someday like to live out there! 🙂 I actually packed up my life as well, into a little ’98 honda civic back in the summer of 2008. I moved to San Diego from Indianapolis to fulfill my dreams. Long story short, it didn’t work out and I moved back home about 4 months later. You know what my biggest complaint was? (Aside from missing Garrett, who at the time, lived way north in Westlake Village) NO RAIN! Seriously. I missed the rain. It sprinkled for literally 3.5 seconds one time in 4 months. I barely even saw a cloud. I’m sure that sounds weird, but, there is such a thing as too much sunshine. haha!! Anywho-I would LOVE to hear your travel story!! 🙂 Like, what made you go there in the first place? And really, how ARE the rainy days there?! 😉 One of these days, I’ll visit. I swear!! <3

That’s awesome! I’ve always wanted to check out San Diego. Weather-wise the thing I miss about the Midwest are thunderstorms. Portland will sometimes get one, but it doesn’t compare to the intense thunder and lightening show that the Midwest puts on!
