Tomorrow is All Hallows Eve! I slacked a little bit this year and didn’t get a costume made, but luckily my friend visiting from Iowa does an amazing job with Day of the Dead makeup so we’ll be doing a bit of face painting for tomorrow! Her first full day in Portland we grabbed a bite to eat at Rogue, enjoyed their delicious Pumpkin Ale and after we explored one of my favorite stores, Cargo, which is full of imported antiques and trinkets. We got lost in Powell’s, where I was shockingly able to walk out without buying any books (I have a huge stack to work through already!) and then hit the town for some drinks!
We’ll be hiking and venturing to the coast later this week so expect a lot of photos in the next Daily Life! To keep up with my adventures in between posts you can follow on Instagram!
What’s everyone doing for Halloween tomorrow? Be safe and have fun no matter how you celebrate!

Thank you Paul! I love hearing how people found my blog!

Apparently a massive storm is coming through! But otherwise.. I made this awesome fairy costume to counteract my tendency towards the “darker arts” – of course, my original plan was to be a vampire or zombie, as always! I’ll make sure to share a picture!

I can’t wait to see your costume Cheryl!

Halloween is really big in the US, yes? We don’t really celebrate it here. Every few years someone will decide to throw a Halloween party if it falls on a weekend. More just for an excuse to get dressed up and drink. But kids don’t really go trick or treating and nobody really bothers with decorations or anything. I used to own a bar/music venue and did a Halloween night there which was great fun though! Even if hardly anyone dressed up. It must be awesome to experience Halloween over there!

I was studying in Paris one Halloween so we tried to throw a big Halloween party to show all our French friends what it was like! Complete with “jello shots” made with gelatin sheets and any weird things we could find, like coconut-lime-rum and screwdriver shots! The only costumes we could find were super basic, so we were all vampires, fairies, and witches – ha! I also paid like 20€ for a pumpkin :/ Sigh.. ha!

That’s so cool! Paris in Halloween sounds like a blast!

If you ever travel to the United States you should definitely come during Halloween! I love that you used to throw Halloween nights at the bar! You know that I would be there! 😉

Finally – a PRO-Halloween blog today. I keep seeing so many bloggers saying “I’m just not into Halloween.” SO sad. I love the Day of the Dead concept, if I had ANY artistic make-up ability I’d do that. (I am a graphic designer but that doesn’t always translate on the face).
Happy Halloween, and if you’ll excuse me now I have a craving for Pumpkin Ale and Dead Guy Ale too!
Sasha says
Aw that saddens me to hear there’s so many anti-Halloween people! I’ll never be too cool NOT to celebrate Halloween! Happy Halloween Kelly! Go pick up some Pumpkin Ale and Dead Guy!

Kelly, if you want to make sure you get a big dose of Halloween love each year, tune in to http://www.dinosaurdracula.com! He loves Halloween (and Christmas) and does reviews/tributes to both the big and small things that make the season great. This year he was over the moon about the return of the Monster Cereals (Frute Brute and Fruity Yummy Mummy joined the regular three) and Halloween lunchables! He also did some great posts with embedded videos of fun old Halloweentime commercials!

I’ll be handing out candy to the kids in our new neighborhood for the first time (so excited!) and then joining my brother for some “Scareoke” haha!
Sasha says
I love to pass out candy! We’re going to get together with some friends that have kids and help them pass out candy/enjoy a Halloween Potluck!

Aw fun! I hope you post pics after the fact! Especially of the Day of the Dead makeup! I’m dressing up a Kiki (of the Delivery Service fame https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiki%27s_Delivery_Service) with a dress I sewed myself! I doubt anyone will recognize me, but I had fun anyway!
Sasha says
I love to hear that others make their costumes! I threw something together pretty quick, but I would love to make my costume next year like I used to! Hope you had an awesome Halloween!
Sam Frank says
I did, thanks! Nobody recognized me, haha! I think next year I’ll break out my homemade Sally (from Nightmare before Xmas) costume. Everyone knows her! ^_^ But Tux (my kitty) had a blast greeting all of the trick-or-treaters!
