Today I decided rather than my typical, “This is what we have been doing over the past week…” Daily Life post, I thought I would tell you guys a bit more about why this blog even began.
To make a slightly long and complicated story short, I lost my job in March. It was the same day my boyfriend was flying into Portland to finally move here after 6 months of long distance dating. To say it was crappy is the understatement of the year. Our day of celebration was taken from us and replaced with the beginning of a mental breakdown. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “Everything happens for a reason..” after a break-up or job loss, but Josh arriving the day I needed him most, seemed more than coincidental.
After a few months of struggling to find work or even a clue of what I was supposed to do now, I decided to focus on making myself happy. Even if that meant just an entire day of baking and cooking or trying out the latest craft trend on Pinterest. It sounds stupid right?! But it worked! It sparked my creativity and I started working on other projects that I had always wanted to do, but “never had time to do” because I was so tired emotionally drained, beaten down, and exhausted after work.
Then the idea came that I could start a blog and start posting all these fun projects and recipes because it’s super easy! WRONG. I didn’t know the first thing about owning and operating a website. I probably still don’t, but it’s fun, frustrating, and a learning experience every day.
Another main driving force for starting my own blog was to make the mistakes so you don’t have to! I have tried so many recipes and projects, only to find that without the help of Gordon Ramsey or Martha herself, it’s not happening! What you never see are the mess ups and REAL outcome. If I screw something up I show you so you know what NOT to do! If something doesn’t work I just keep trying and changing until I can get it perfect enough to post for you.
I set out to make this post about a paragraph long, but as you can see, I’m pretty passionate about it : ) In a nutshell.. if it makes you happy, do it! No matter how small, big, scary, or silly it may seem and it might just become your passion.
