Of course we’re just two days into November and I believe I’m already sick. I’m currently drinking a gallon of lemon ginger tea with honey to soothe this sore throat, but I’m thinking a Hot Toddy may be in order soon!
The last few weeks have been a pretty equal balance of good, bad, calm, and weird. I try to keep a pretty sunny disposition about it all, but sometimes your optimism bank feels pretty tapped out. On those days I find myself feeling very grateful for friends and family near and far that help pull me out of the funk that I’m in. And speaking of feeling grateful..
I used to go over a list of about 10 things or people that I was grateful for every morning when I woke up and every night before I went to bed, but somewhere along the way, I stopped. Perhaps that’s why I’m feeling the way that I am? I suppose it’s only fitting that we’re in November, where everyone starts doing their 30 days of things their thankful for, that I choose to start going over that list each day again. It may seem a little bit silly, but it always helped me start and end my day on a positive note. Anyone else do this as well?
If you follow my personal Instagram, you may have seen a few weeks ago that I was having coffee with my little duck down by the pond and everyone was really excited to see more adventures of my no-name duck that couldn’t fly… And then he died.
I have no idea how or why, but it was just two days after that photo. Of course the way that I found him was really awful timing.. We took my friend’s two year old down to the pond to feed him and there in the water we found him floating. : ( Thankfully she didn’t spot him so we got to avoid the whole death discussion with her for now. Rest in peace Duck Duck, the pond is not the same without you!
The rest of the wildlife around here is quite alive though. Every day it’s a parade of deer, feral cats, raccoons, wild turkeys, woodpeckers, and the occasional skunk. My step-dad comically and poetically put it quite perfect, “The country is great. Quiet with a meat department.” Haha I don’t think I’ll be hunting this year as my target practice still needs a bit of work (see below), but I do love being able to take a break from my laptop to go wandering around the property to collect things for various craft projects (coming soon!) and of course Punk has been enjoying her new land as well.
I also have been able to spend a lot of time with my parents (and their pup, Coco!) which was a big part of why I moved back to Iowa. I’m still in this weird adjustment period after kind of turning my life upside down, but when I’m with them, I feel home and that I made the right choice. Alright, I’m about to get all emotional so I’m going to close things out..
I’ve got an amazing November planned with tons of new recipes, DIY projects, and some house projects, so stay tuned! You can always keep up on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter or make sure you’re signed up for my new weekly newsletter!
