This past weekend we met up with family that were traveling through Astoria on their year-long road trip throughout the U.S. We were really excited to finally explore further up north on the coast since we typically just head south. We stopped and had lunch at a little pub that was rumored to be haunted, but the only thing haunting we found was the angry bartender who seemed less than thrilled to be working there!
We headed across the four mile long Astoria-Megler bridge to Ilwaco, WA to see the two beautiful lighthouses overlooking Cape Disappointment and the Pacific. First we checked out the Cape Disappointment lighthouse and then hiked over to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center to explore for a bit.
Afterward we drove up to the North Head Lighthouse which we hit at just the right time. The sun made for perfect lighting against the lighthouse and I couldn’t stop taking pictures!
I sometimes wish I could write a thank you note to the Pacific Northwest to express my appreciation for how beautiful this place is. I love being able to discover new places and feel like a tourist in the place that I now call home. Even if you’re convinced that you’ve seen everything that there is to see in your hometown, make it a goal to seek out something new. Whether it’s a museum, art exhibit, or park.. get your buns out there and start exploring!
Where will you be adventuring to this weekend?
