One of our favorite bars makes a margarita-like cocktail using cilantro infused tequila and I can’t get over how unique and refreshing the taste is! I thought I would try my hand at infusing my own tequila to whip up some delicious and festive cocktails for an upcoming birthday/Cinco de Mayo celebration. Since the infusing process can take up to five days, I encourage you to start this endeavor with me so you can make a few of the cocktails I’ll be sharing next week!
…..
Ingredients:
2 cups silver tequila
1 cup loosely packed fresh cilantro
Half of a jalapeño pepper (optional if you’re not a fan of spicy drinks)
Add tequila, cilantro, and jalapeño to a glass canning jar and seal. Shake a few times and place in the refrigerator for 2-5 days. Shake the jar and taste the tequila each day to test the potency of the cilantro flavor and spiciness. I recommend removing the jalapeño after 24-48 hours and letting the cilantro continue to infuse. Once it reaches the desired flavor, strain tequila through a fine mesh sieve or coffee filter into another airtight jar or bottle. Discard cilantro and pepper and store tequila in the refrigerator.
